Patient's current age
Normal range: 8-48 U/L
Normal range: 7-55 U/L
Normal range: 150-450 ×10^9/L
FIB-4 Score Formula
Formula:
FIB-4 = (Age × AST) / (Platelets × √ALT)
• Age = Patient's age in years
• AST = Aspartate aminotransferase (U/L)
• ALT = Alanine aminotransferase (U/L)
• Platelets = Platelet count (×10^9/L)
• √ALT = Square root of ALT value
About FIB-4 Score
The FIB-4 (Fibrosis-4) index is a non-invasive scoring system used to assess the risk of advanced liver fibrosis in patients with chronic liver disease, particularly in those with viral hepatitis or non-alcoholic fatty liver disease.
The score incorporates age, AST, ALT, and platelet count to estimate the probability of advanced fibrosis (F3-F4). It provides a simple, cost-effective alternative to liver biopsy for fibrosis assessment.
FIB-4 scores are interpreted as: <1.45 (low risk), 1.45-3.25 (indeterminate), and >3.25 (high risk). The score helps guide clinical decisions regarding the need for additional testing or treatment.
Note: FIB-4 score is a screening tool and should be used in conjunction with clinical judgment. Always consult with a hepatologist for comprehensive evaluation and treatment planning.
